This dramatic dismissal echoed the stunned reactions of millions of fans and cricket pundits alike. The incident unfolded when Rajat Patidar, on strike, drove a full toss from Mitchell Santner straight back towards the bowler. Reacting quickly, Santner dived low and got a slight fingertip deflection, sending the ball careening towards the stumps at the non-striker's end.  To the naked eye, it appeared Du Plessis had made his ground comfortably.  However, the on-field umpire, unsure of the sequence of events, referred the decision upstairs.
