As the Delhi Capitals are making a late push to secure a place in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs, the franchise faces a big challenge as two of their experienced campaigners are slated to be out for a significant period. Left-handed explosive batter David Warner is battling an injury as revealed in the scans while right-arm fast bowler Ishant Sharma is suffering from back spasms.

DC assistant coach Pravin Amre revealed that Warner is expected to remain sidelined for one or two weeks while Ishant is likely to take at least a week to recover from his injury.

"Warner will take 1-2 weeks to recover. His scans revealed an injury. Ishant has been having back spasms. He will also take a week to recover. By the time we return to Delhi he will be fit," said Amre.

Jake Fraser-McGurk's impact

The introduction of Jake Fraser-McGurk has changed the dynamics and infused life in the Delhi Capitals's stuttering season. The right-handed Australian batter has turned the fortunes of the franchise around with his breathtaking batting. DC's assistant coach lavished praise on the young Aussie sensation, who was signed as a replacement for Lungi Ngidi.

"He played three games for Dubai Capitals (in the ILT20) and our scouting team was very keen to have him (for the IPL)," said Amre.

"Once we got an opportunity to have a replacement, even though we had a choice between a couple of players, we picked him. "He played just three innings [in the ILT20] before leaving to play for Australia but even in that, he played a couple of match-winning innings. Those knocks were something special. Given he is a young, exciting cricketer, we decided to back him," the DC assistant coach added.

The Capitals' next match will be against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KRR) at the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata on April 29 (Monday).
