Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured their fourth victory of the season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 4 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With this win, RCB moved up from tenth to seventh place, having won their last three matches. However, their chances of qualifying for the playoffs remain slim with just four wins in eleven matches.

 

Meanwhile, GT and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are currently in the eighth and ninth spots, respectively. PBKS secured a win against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 1.

 

On Friday, May 3, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) solidified their second place in the standings by achieving their seventh win, defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by 24 runs. Behind KKR, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are in third place with six wins from ten matches. LSG clinched their last victory against MI by four wickets on April 30. Similarly, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also have six wins from ten matches and are currently fourth in the standings, having edged past the table-toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) by just one run in their latest game.

The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI), are languishing at the bottom of the points table. With only three wins from eleven matches, MI is no longer in contention for the playoffs.

Looking ahead to a double-header on Sunday, May 5, CSK will face PBKS, and LSG will take on KKR. In the first game, a victory for CSK could propel them into the top four, while PBKS risks falling out of the playoff race without a win. In the second matchup, a win for KKR could put them at the top of the table, whereas LSG aim to secure two crucial points to solidify their position in the top four.
