Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) bowler Tushar Deshpande has risen as one of the top contenders to hold the Purple Cap this season. Tushar grabbed two wickets and conceded 30 runs in his four-over spell against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Along with him, Delhi Capitals’ (DC) Khaleel Ahmed has once again made his entry in the top five. The DC pacer picked up two wickets for 31 runs in four overs against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians’ (MI) star bowler Jasprit Bumrah remains the Purple Cap holder. He grabbed two wickets in the clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to take his tally to 20 wickets. However, Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) bowler Harshal Patel is also standing with the same amount of wickets in the second spot. Harshal grabbed a three-wicket haul and gave 38 runs against the RCB.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy remains in the third spot after taking two wickets in the match against the MI on May 11, where he also won the Player of the Match award for his astonishing bowling spell.
Here is the updated list of bowlers who are in the Purple Cap race after double-headers:
1. Jasprit Bumrah (MI)
After missing last season due to injury, the star pacer has been a nightmare for the batters this season. Jasprit Bumrah has grabbed 20 wickets in 13 matches at an exceptional economy rate of 6.48.
2. Harshal Patel (PBKS)
The PBKS bowler didn’t had a great start this season but now he is proving to be very effective. Harshal Patel has also taken 20 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of 9.75.
3. Varun Chakravarthy (KKR)
The mystery spinner has taken 18 wickets in 12 matches and has an economy rate of 8.34. He has been one of the frontline spinners for the KKR franchise this season.
4. Tushar Deshpande (CSK)
The 28-year-old has taken 16 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of 8.52. He has been a very effective bowler for the CSK with the new ball and in the death overs too.
5. Khaleel Ahmed (DC)
The left-arm pacer has grabbed 16 wickets in 13 encounters at an economy of 9.52. Khaleel Ahmed had a good start this season and is again proving to be a crucial asset for the Delhi franchise
