Shreyas Iyer is struggling with back spasms.

Shreyas Iyer, who is regarded as one of India's brightest prospects in recent years, has been persistently struggling with back spasms. Shreyas Iyer, eagerly waiting to make a comeback for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, has suffered another injury setback at a crucial moment.

Shreyas Iyer uncertain for IPL 2024?

According to a Times of India's report, KKR captain Shreyas will be unable to play in Mumbai's upcoming Ranji Trophy quarter-final clash against Baroda due to back spasm. The 29-year-old, who was sidelined for the entire previous season because of a back injury, now faces uncertainty over his participation in the forthcoming IPL season as well.

Shreyas' dismal outing in Test series vs England

Shreyas was part of the Indian team in the current five-match Test series against England, where he appeared in two games and scored 35, 13, 27, and 29 across the four innings of the first two Tests. Following these performances, he was dropped for inconsistency. Now, just as he was poised for a return, the ex-Delhi Capitals captain has encountered a significant setback.

In preparation for the upcoming season, KKR has undergone extensive restructuring with Gautam Gambhir taking over as the newly-appointed mentor. The franchise, aiming for its third title, has brought on board players like Mitchell Starc, Chetan Sakariya, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and KS Bharat, among others, all of whom are keen to play under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.

Yet, the extent of Shreyas' injury remains unclear at this point. As such, it wouldn't be surprising to see him back in action, wearing the KKR jersey for the IPL 2024.

Shivam Dube too out of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy quarterfinal clash

Shivam Dube is also set to be absent from Mumbai's quarterfinal match in the current Ranji Trophy season. The team, which has won the Ranji Trophy 41 times, is set to compete against Baroda in the quarterfinals starting February 23, playing at their home ground. Dube's absence poses a significant challenge for Ajinkya Rahane's squad, as the all-rounder had been displaying remarkable form throughout the tournament. Over six innings in this season's Ranji Trophy, Dube hit two centuries and two fifties, including a rapid 87-ball century against Assam and a 117-run performance off 130 balls, enhancing his batting profile.

On the bowling front, Dube made substantial contributions to the Mumbai team, delivering 67 overs and claiming 12 wickets with an impressive average of 12.08.
