Renowned Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza recently lauded the Indian Premier League (IPL), describing it as superior to the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Raza highlighted the IPL's unique appeal, attributing it to the league's ability to attract leading international cricketers. He acknowledged that the PSL is a close second in terms of drawing large crowds but emphasised that the IPL stands out as the premier cricket league globally.
"I just think that the availability of all the players for one tournament makes IPL really special. In most of the matches we play, the crowd comes and supports their teams. That's something that's really different in IPL. The only other league when it comes to crowds that comes close to IPL is PSL. So, I think IPL definitely stands out with a couple of factors," Raza told Sports Now.
Raza, who is slated to join Punjab Kings for the 2024 IPL season starting in March, also competes for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL.
He underscored the IPL's status as the foremost cricket league worldwide, stating it offers a more enriching experience than the PSL. The 2024 season marks the 17th edition of the IPL, contrasting with the PSL, which will be entering its ninth season in March.

"IPL is by far the best league when it comes to PSL also. Like, it is much better than PSL. That's what I'm trying to say. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of comparisons. But yes, it is. I think IPL is the biggest league on the planet," Raza added.
Reflecting on his journey with Punjab Kings, Raza expressed immense gratitude towards the franchise for showing faith in his abilities. He revealed that Punjab Kings were the only team to bid for him during the IPL 2023 auction, securing his services for Rs 50 lakh at the mini-auction.
"IPL is such a big and global event that I am very grateful and blessed that Punjab picked me. And I don't think I can ever repay their faith. I mean, they were the only team that raised the baton on the auction day. So, if they hadn't done that, I don't think I would have been part of IPL last year, let alone this year," said Raza.
As the 2024 IPL season approaches, Raza is focused on making a significant contribution to Punjab Kings, aiming to lead the team to its first IPL championship. His comments underscore the IPL's global prestige and its role in providing a platform for international talent to showcase their skills on a grand stage, further solidifying the league's reputation as a cricketing powerhouse.
