Speculations are rife that the CSK vs RR's clash at Chepauk could be Dhoni's last dance in IPL.

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar predicts a emotional goodbye for legendary MS Dhoni at Chepauk in the IPL 2024 clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 12. This IPL season is widely believed to be Dhoni's last, as the 42-year-old veteran aims to end his reign with a bang after leading CSK to a record-equalling fifth IPL title. Dhoni, known for his loyalty to his fans, returned for another season after the 2023 final, fulfilling his promise to his supporters. Gavaskar hopes to see Dhoni depart the game in style, hitting a few big sixes during CSK's final home match.

“I’d love to see him come and smash a couple of sixes. Obviously that running between the wickets with that leg won’t be there. But it’s going to be emotional, I mean as the match progresses they will know where the match is standing whether CSK is going to win or RR is going to win. I think it is going to be emotional just like when Sachin Tendulkar played his last match at the Wankhede Stadium. I just hope that MSD also goes out on a real high,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports .

MS Dhoni's blitzkrieg in IPL 2024

Dhoni has been amazing in the ongoing IPL season. With a strike rate of over 226, he's scored 136 runs in just 10 innings. The wicketkeeper batter has captivated the audience with his powerful strokes, smashing 12 enormous sixes this season. He played a pivotal cameo of 20* off just 4 balls against MI, helping Chennai achieve a formidable total of 206/4 in their 20 overs. His innings proved to be the decisive factor as CSK clinched the match by 20 runs. In other news, RR won the toss against CSK and chose to bat first. Should the hosts lose this match, their playoff prospects would be at risk, potentially leading to an early exit from the tournament for Chennai’s revered 'Thala'. Thus, the defending champions are set to give their utmost on the field to ensure that the legendary captain exits on a high note should he decide to retire at season’s end.
