Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper David Warner on April 8 became the fastest batter to reach 6,000 runs in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Warner reached the massive milestone from 165 innings to break Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli’s record. The Australian opener also became the first overseas batter to score 6,000 IPL runs.

Only two other batters have scored 6,000 or more runs in IPL. Kohli reached the feat from 188 innings whereas Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan reached there in his 199th innings.

The southpaw completed his 6,000 IPL runs with a boundary off Trent Boult in the ninth over of DC's run chase at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.

Warner went on to score 65 runs from 55 balls in a losing cause. He got out leg before wicket to leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the penultimate over of the innings. Warner helped Capitals recover from early blows in powerplay overs. Once again, his strike rate was in question. His knock helped DC score 142/9 in reply to Royals' 199.

This was Capitals' third loss in a row. Now they are placed ninth on the points table, just above Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

“When you are chasing 200, you need to start well. Can't take the credit away from Trent Boult. He was really good. It is just about executing your skills. We had a couple of chop ons last evening. We are professionals. We need to work it out. It is frustrating to hit to the fielders. One of our strike bowlers went down as well. Just didn't go to plan,” he said in the post-match presentation.

Warner has struggled to put up a fight while chasing targets. Their batting has been lacklustre in the absence of Rishabh Pant who has been ruled out of entire season due to injuries suffered in horrific car accident.

The New South Wales batter has scored 158 runs from three innings so far but he has not got support from other batters.
