GT vs MI: Powerless top order lets Mumbai Indians down again, Gujarat Titans register massive 55-run win after posting their highest total

Lack of firepower at the top continued to haunt Mumbai Indians (MI) as they lost to defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) by a massive margin of 55 runs at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. After a slow start, MI failed to make a comeback as Afghan duo Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad did not let them get back on the track. 
 

MI's run chase got off to a disastrous start. Pandya got the wicket of Rohit in his first over. He faced eight deliveries and scored just two runs. Ishan Kishan struggled to score during fielding restrictions. Green hit the first six of the innings in the third over. After powerplay overs, MI had 29/1 on the board. In the eighth over, Rashid Khan ended Kishan's troubled stay at the crease. He scored just 13 runs from 21 balls including just one boundary. In the same over he got Tilak Varma lbw.  At halfway stage, MI were 58/3.
 

In the 11th over, Noor got the wicket of Green. He scored 33 runs from 26 balls including three sixes. In the same over, Tim David went for the big shot and got out for a two-ball duck. Suryakumar Yadav ended Rashid's spell with a four and a six. In the next over, Nehal Wadhera hit Ahmad for a four and a six. Suryakumar got a boundary as well and then handed a catch to Ahmad. He scored 23 runs from 12 balls including three fours and a six. 

In the 15th over, Wadhera hit a boundary as MI crossed the 100-run mark. Wadhera hit a few sixes. Piyush Chawla hit a six too before getting run out in the 18th over. Chawla scored 18 runs from 12 balls. In the same over, Wadhera got out to Mohit Sharma. He scored 40 runs from 21 balls including three fours and three sixes. In the penultimate over, Arjun hit Mohit for the first six of his IPL career. He took the aerial route again but got caught at long-on. MI posted 152/9 and lost the match by 55 runs.

Earlier, Rohit won the toss and opted to field first. Arjun Tendulkar started well and got the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha. Shubman Gill broke the shackles in the sixth over and smashed Green for two fours and one six. GT were 50/1 after powerplay overs. Rohit introduced Chawla into the attack and he got Pandya's wicket first ball. Pandya scored 13 runs from 14 balls. In the 10th over, Vijay Shankar targetted Kumar Kartikeya and hit him for a four and a six. In the 10th over, Gill got to his half-century from 30 balls. At halfway stage, GT were 84/1.

Kartikeya got the breakthrough in the 12th over. Gill departed after scoring 56 runs from 34 balls including seven fours and one six. In the next over, Chawla got Shankar's wicket who contributed with a 16-ball 19. David Miller and Abhinav Manohar helped GT recover from double blows. Chawla's last over turned out to be an expensive one as Maohar hit him for two fours and one six. Manohar went berserk in the 18th over hitting Green for two sixes. Miller hit Green for a six as well in the 22-run over. 
 

In the penultimate over, Riley Meredith got Manohar's wicket. He scored 42 runs from 21 balls including three fours and as may sixes. Rahul Tewatia came in to bat and got off the mark with a six. Miller ended the penultimate over with two sixes. He was dropped by Behrendorff on the boundary as well. In the final over, Tewatia hit Behrendorff for two sixes. Miller missed his half-century and got out off the fifth delivery. The southpaw scored 46 runs from 22 balls including two fours and four sixes. Rashid scored a couple of runs off the final ball as GT posted 207/6, the highest for the franchise.
