The verbal altercation that transpired between two of Indian cricket's biggest names - Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir - took the cricket fraternity by storm on May 1 (Monday). In the 43rd match of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) exacted their revenge and defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 18 runs in a low-scoring encounter at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
The game will be remembered for the verbal fight between former RCB skipper Virat Kohli and LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir as the duo indulged in a huge war of words after the conclusion of the match.
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was part of the 2011 ODI World Cup-winning team along with Kohli and Gambhir, was one among the many former cricketers to come forward and give their opinion on the entire incident that took place on Monday.
Harbhajan took to Twitter and reflected on his infamous incident involving S Sreesanth where the former slapped the latter after the match between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians in Mohali. The cricketer-turned-commentator said he was 'ashamed' of hi actions and gave a lengthy opinion on Kohli-Gambhir's verbal spat on his YouTube channel.
"I Am Ashamed Of What I Did With Sreesanth In 2008. Virat Kohli Is A Legend, Should Not Get Involved In Such Things. Whatever Happened Between Virat And Gambhir Was Not Right For Cricket," Harbhajan said in a Tweet.
In a video posted on Harbhajan's YouTube Channel, the former India spinner explained in detail the topsy-turvy relationship between Kohli and Gambhir.
"There will be a lot of questions over whose fault it was, whether it was Kohli's, Gambhir's or Naveen's. A lot of heated words were exchanged, even while shaking hands you can see that Kohli immediately withdrew his hand," Harbhajan said.
"Virat and Gautam are from the same city, they have even won the World Cup together, so I think that they should spread a lovely message to cricket lovers together.
"If you see the highlights of this match, you'll say that there was more fighting than cricket going on. Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli already have their rivalry and differences from before itself. Their relationship was never the same after the incident at the Chinnaswamy Stadium long back," he added.
