In a major blow to the Delhi Capitals, their star pacer Anrich Nortje will miss out on their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, May 6. The club released a statement confirming the news just hours before the match between the two Indian Premier League (IPL) teams.
"Owing to a personal emergency, Delhi Capitals fast bowler Anrich Nortje had to leave for South Africa late on Friday night. He will be unavailable for this evening’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore," the statement read.
Nortje joins a list of many players to either miss the tournament completely or miss matches midway through the season owing to injuries and the like. The reason for the pacer's return to his home country is not yet confirmed. It is also up for doubt whether Nortje will miss the rest of the ongoing season or whether he will be back in time for their next match against CSK on Wednesday, May 10.
The South African made his IPL debut in 2020 for the Capitals and has since then become a key player for the franchise. He picked up 22 wickets in 16 matches and finished as the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament in the season that DC last made the final of the mega event.
In 38 IPL matches, he has taken 50 wickets, including seven in the current season.
