Delhi Capitals (DC) captain David Warner was penalised by the Indian Premier League (IPL) for breaching the Code of Conduct during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The DC skipper maintained a slow over-rate against SRH at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad on April 24 (Monday). As a result, a fine of Rs 12 lakh was imposed on Warner as it was DC's first offence.

"Delhi Capitals captain David Warner has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium, Hyderabad," IPL said in a statement.

"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Warner was fined Rs. 12 lakh," the league added.

Meanwhile, DC held their nerve and registered a thrilling seven-run victory over SRH Monday. Defending a mediocre score of 144/9, DC bowlers executed brilliantly under pressure and helped their team register only the second victory of the season. Anrich Nortje (2/33 in four overs) and Ishant Sharma (1/18) in three overs led DC's charge with the ball.

While Nortje and Sharma did what they were supposed to do, it all boiled down to Mukesh Kumar in the end. The right-arm pacer was tasked to defend 13 runs in the last over against Washington Sundar and Marco Jansen. Mukesh bowled a stifling last over and conceded just five runs.

After starting the season with five consecutive defeats, Warner's men have now won back-to-back matches. Despite successive victories, the Capitals are stationed at the bottom of the points table. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad also have five defeats and two wins in seven matches played. Aiden Markram's men are currently ninth in the standings.

Talking about Warner, the Australian explosive batter breached the 300-run mark this season during the game against the Orange Army.  The DC captain has registered 306 runs in seven matches so far at a strike rate of 119.53 and an average of 43.71.
