Gujarat Titans (GT) vice-captain Rashid Khan played an emphatic unbeaten 79-run knock against the Mumbai Indians (MI) during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday (May 12). The Afghanistan national team skipper has now called this knock his most memorable innings.

Rashid played a stunning knock off just 32 balls, which is the highest-ever score by a No. 8 batter in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

What could have been a devastating defeat for the Titans turned out to be a close call thanks to Rashid's swashbuckling innings of three fours and ten sixes. He managed to outscore former Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Pat Cummins, who batted eighth for his team against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in an IPL 2021 match at the same venue.

"This will be one of the most memorable innings. Thank you for your love and support. #AavaDe #GujaratTitans #IPL2023," Rashid shared on his social media handles.

Rashid was brilliant with the bowl in the first innings as well. He took four wickets for 30 runs in his four-over spell. After this, while batting at number eight, he scored an unbeaten 79 runs. This makes him one of three players to take four wickets and also score fifty in an IPL match. He was also the third player after Yuvraj Singh and Mitchell Marsh to not win a game after achieving this feat.

His bowling restricted MI to just 218 runs after the onslaught of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Nehal Wadhera. With a big target to chase down, the MI bowlers took advantage of the powerplay bowling. The MI bowlers did not help as they lost their top three within the first six overs.

With the game already out of their hands, Rashid was able to reduce the margin to just 27 runs, ensuring that his name would go down in history. Rashid set six significant records in the IPL, including the most sixes in an innings by a GT batter and becoming only the second bowler in T20 cricket history after Dwayne Bravo to take 550 wickets.
