In a big blow to the Mumbai Indians (MI), yet another one of their star pacers has suffered an injury, according to former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and India batter S Badrinath.

Mumbai will return to the Wankhede for their second Indian Premier League (IPL) match of the season but will be without Archer, who has sustained an elbow injury, Badrinath said on his YouTube Channel.

"From the Mumbai Indians camp, there is some news, Jofra Archer will miss this match with an elbow injury. This is big news because Archer is a very good pacer. He will be a handful at the Wankhede, is what we all thought. Him not playing in a big thing, a big boost to CSK," he said while analysing the game.

Despite this, MI's batting coach Kieron Pollard has said that everyone on their side is fit.

Archer is the third MI pacer to suffer an injury for the IPL 2023 season after both Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson were ruled out of the competition. The Englishman also missed out on the 2022 edition of the tournament and was looking forward to leading the MI bowling unit in Bumrah's absence.

Bumrah was replaced by Sandeep Warrier, while Rilee Meredith was called up to the squad in place of his injured countryman Richardson.

This means that MI could have to play with an extra bowler. There is an option of using Arjun Tendulkar available, with the left-arm seamer having been with the franchise for three seasons but yet to make his debut.
