Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Nitish Rana has been slapped with a fine of 25 per cent of his match fee for his part in the heated exchange with Hrithik Shokeen during the match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 16.

In addition to Rana, Shokeen will also have to forego 10 per cent of his match fee, while stand-in MI skipper Suryakumar Yadav was fined Rs 12 Lakh after his team maintained a slow over-rate.

"Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana was fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai Indians bowler Hrithik Shokeen was fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai," the statement read.

About Suryakumar, it said, "Mumbai Indians captain Suryakumar Yadav has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Suryakumar Yadav was fined Rs. 12 Lakh."

The KKR skipper was trying to build a partnership with centurion Venkatesh Iyer. But his stay was short-lived as Shokken got him in the ninth over. The young spinner from Delhi, right after Rana's dismissal, said something to him, to which the KKR captain gave a bitter retort. However, Suryakumar immediately came to the rescue and diffused the situation.

Meanwhile, Venkatesh Iyer's scintillating 51-ball 104 for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was the highlight of the evening but it was not enough to prevent a five-wicket loss at the hands of Mumbai on Sunday's first match.

It was the 28-year-old's maiden century in the IPL and only the second in the team's history after Brendon McCullum's century for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of IPL 2008. Venkatesh was the main aggressor for KKR despite the team losing wickets and struggling against the opponent bowlers. For Mumbai, some impressive power hitting from their top order helped them chase down the target of 180 runs with ease.
