IPL 2023 Points Table: Mumbai Indians climb to sixth place after Punjab Kings miss golden chance to reach second position

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 45 matches have been played in IPL 2023 while the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After 34 days of action in the cash-rich tournament, all the teams are gearing up for the business end of the competition.

On May 3 (Wednesday), Mumbai Indians registered a thumping six-wicket win against Punjab Kings after completing a fantastic run chase with seven balls to spare to secure two important points.

Let's take a closer look at IPL 2023 points table:

1. Gujarat Titans: The defending champions continue to be at the top of the points table despite losing on Wednesday. Hardik Pandya's men have 12 points in nine matches played at a Net Run Rate (NNR) of 0.532.

2. Rajasthan Royals: Sanju Samson's side slipped to second place on the points table. They have five wins and four defeats in nine matches played so far. The Royals have earned 10 points with an NNR of 0.841.

3. Lucknow Super Giants: KL Rahul's men are third in the points table. LSG have won five out of their nine matches so far and holds an NNR of 0.639.

4. Chennai Super Kings: The Men in Yellow stayed on fourth despite the loss to PBKS. They now have five wins in nine matches played. They have a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.329 and 10 points to their name.

5. Royal Challengers Bangalore: The Red Army has five wins in nine matches this season so far. With an NRR of -0.030 and 10 points.

6. Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma's men started their campaign with successive defeats but they won three consecutive matches before losing two consecutive matches again. They bounced back with consecutive wins and have 10 points after playing nine matches.

7. Punjab Kings: The Punjab-based franchise now have five wins in 10 matches played. They now have 10 points with an NRR of -0.472.

8. Kolkata Knight Riders: In eight matches played, KKR have lost six games and managed to win just three contests. They are in the eighth spot with an NRR of -0.147.

9. Sunrisers Hyderabad: The Orange Army are rooted to ninth in the standings. They have six points with an NRR of -0.577 in eight matches played.

10. Delhi Capitals: David Warner's team is at the bottom of the points table with six points after playing nine matches,
