IPL 2023: Rajasthan Royals dethrones Lucknow Super Giants to clinch top spot, Chennai Super Kings stationed in 5th place

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 17 matches have been played in IPL 2023 and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After 13 days of action in the cash-rich tournament, all teams have played at least three matches each while Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have played four games each. Furthermore, no team is unbeaten in the ongoing season of the IPL.

Sanju Samson's RR registered a hard-fought three-run win over MS Dhoni's men on April 12 (Wednesday). As a result, the last season's runners-up scaled to the pole position in the points table. Let's take a closer look at the points table.

1. Rajasthan Royals: Sanju Samson's side is sitting pretty at the top of the points table with three wins and one defeat in four matches played thus far. The Royals have earned six points with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 1.588.

2. Lucknow Super Giants: KL Rahul's men began their season on the right note as they trounced Delhi Capitals but lost their second game against the Super Kings. It was a just blip though, as they have now won back-to-back matches. The Super Giants have six points in four matches with an NRR of 1.048.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders: The two-time champions secured a three-wicket victory on Sunday. In three matches plated, KKR have four points on the back of two wins. They are in the second spot with an NRR of 1.375.

4. Gujarat Titans: The defending champions registered back-to-back wins to begin their season but finally lost a game on Sunday. They are currently in fourth place with 4 points and an NRR of 0.431.

5. Chennai Super Kings: The Men in Yellow are in fifth place in the standings after losing two and winning two matches to begin their season. They have an NRR of 0.225.

6. Punjab Kings: Shikhar Dhawan's side is in sixth place on the points table with two wins in three matches played. The franchise has four points with an NRR of -0.281.

7. Royal Challengers Bangalore: After winning their opening game of the season, the Red Army has lost back-to-back matches and is now in seventh place on the points table with an NRR of -0.800.

8. Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma's men started their campaign with successive defeats but finally opened their account in the wins column. They have an NRR of -0.879 with two points in three matches.

9. Sunrisers Hyderabad: The Orange Army slipped to ninth place after MI's win on Tuesday. They have two points with an NRR of -1.502.

10. Delhi Capitals: David Warner's team is at the bottom of the points table with four losses in as many games. They have an NRR of -1.576.
