IPL 2023: In desperate need of win, Sanju hands Englishman his much-awaited IPL debut, while Markram drop Hyderabad's 13.25 Crore recruit

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be hoping to end their bad run on form and secure a win over the bottom-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) when the two sides take the field at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur in Sunday's (May 7) second match of the day.

And with a lot at stake, the Royals skipper Sanju Samson have won the toss and have opted to bat first.
After winning four of their first five matches this season, RR went on to lose four of the next five games, keeping them on fourth but level on 10 points with three other teams. With all this in mind, Samson has handed an Indian Premier League (IPL) debut to veteran Englishman Joe Root, while star pacer Trent Boult has been moved into the impact substitutes.

“Conditions also demand the same. Climate has been different. Not much dew in the latter half. And sometimes it suits us also. We would've wanted to play a better standard of cricket. We've had hard and honest chats. Would like to come back stronger,” said Samson at the toss.

Meanwhile, for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), all eyes will be on their powerful yet ineffective batting unit, and their skipper Aiden Markram revealed that his team had two changes, with Glenn Phillips coming in for Harry Brook, while Vivrant Sharma is also handed his IPL debut.

“Would've also batted first. It's a used wicket. There have been some close ones. Most of the time we've played decent cricket but not been able to get over the line,” said Markram after the too.
