On the back of Sandeep Sharma's brilliance against MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja in the last over, Rajasthan Royals (RR) registered a thrilling three-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Needing 21 runs off the last over, the Super Kings had a fantastic start as Sandeep bowled two consecutive wides to begin the over. Dhoni then unleashed two consecutive sixes and brought the equation down to seven runs required off three balls. The RR bowler then showed immense composure and nailed consecutive yorkers to ice the game.

After the match, Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakh as as the Rajasthan-based franchise maintained a slow over-rate. The RR skipper was penalised for breaching IPL's Code of Conduct.

"Rajasthan Royals have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match 17 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Wednesday," IPL said in a release.

"As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, captain Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the release added.

Meanwhile, Samson's team leaped to the top of the points table after a hard-fought victory over Dhoni's men. The Royals now have three wins in four matches and six points with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 1.588. The Men in Yellow slipped to the fifth place with two wins and as many losses in four matches played.

Samson credited his bowlers for executing the plans and fielders for holding onto the catches as the RR skipper finally won a match at Chepauk.

"You have to give credit to the boys. The bowlers kept their cool at the end and bowled really well, we also held on to our catches. I don't have good memories at Chepauk, never won here and wanted to win today. The ball was gripping and hence, we brought Zampa in as the impact player," Samson said at the post-match presentation.
