Suryakumar Yadav got injured while taking a catch at long-on in the match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on April 11. Suryakumar missed a regulation catch at long-on and the ball hit him above left eye, and bounced over the boundary. 
 

The incident took place in the 17th over of DC’s innings. Axar Patel took on Australian left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff and hit the length ball towards long-on. The shot did not have enough power behind it as it found Suryakumar at the boundary. Suryakumar who was using the reverse cup technique to catch the ball missed it completely and got injured. The ball bounced off his forehead and went over the ropes for a six.

The MI fielder received medical attention straightaway and was taken off the field. He did not come back to the field in the first innings After the dropped catch, Patel made MI pay and completed his first half-century of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 with a six off Riley Meredith in the 18th over.
 

The southpaw scored 54 runs from 25 deliveries. In the penultimate over, Behrendorff got his wicket. Patel flicked one towards deep backward square leg and found fielder Arshad Khan. Patel helped accelerate the scoring rate with four fours and five sixes in his 25-ball 54.

 

After Patel's wicket, DC suffered a batting collapse and ended up getting all out for 172 with two balls left in the innings. In the penultimate over, Behrendorff took three wickets and Nehal Wadhera effected a run out. Warner departed after 47-ball 51, Kuldeep Yadav got out for a golden duck whereas Abhishek Porel got caught trying to hit a big shot. In the final over, Riley Meredith conceded a boundary off Anrich Nortje's bat. But the Australian pacer got the better of Nortje as he got him bowled. 

 

Surya returns in death overs

 

Suryakumar was not padded up early. Tilak Varma was promoted up the order and scored 41 runs from 29 balls. He came in to bat in the 16th over at no.4. He took the aerial route first ball and got caught at the fine leg. This was his fourth golden duck in six innings (including ODIs).
