Unhappy with SRH's IPL auction picks, Simon Katich steps down as assistant coach

In a major development it is being understood that the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) assistant coach Simon Katich has reportedly quit the IPL franchise, just less than two months before the commencement of the 15th edition of IPL. 

 

As per a report in 'The Australian', the former Australian batsman Simon Katich decided to step down after some disagreements regarding how the team is managed, took place. 

 

The real reason

It is also reported that Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise had disregarded the pre-auctions plans as well. 

 

But a departure in the coaching unit is not something new for the Hyderabad-based franchise. Previously, Trevor Bayliss and Brad Haddin had also stepped down as the coach of the team. 

 

Former Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody will be coaching the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise in the 15th edition of Indian Premier League. Earlier, Moody had brought in Katich as the assistant coach.

 

Retained players

Ahead of the mega auction for the IPL 2022 edition, SRH had decided to retain three cricketers. And those three players were- New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson for an amount of Rs 14 crore, Abdul Samad for Rs 4 crore and Umran Malik for Rs 4 crore. 

 

Kiwi batter Kane Williamson is expected to lead the SRH franchise in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League. 

 

At the mega auction for the IPL 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad spent a whopping amount of Rs 10.75 crore for West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran. Indian all-rounder Washngtion Sundar was roped in for a healthy amount of Rs 8.75 crore.

 

Apart from these players, the SRH franchise had landed players like- T Natarajan (Rs 4 crore), Priyam Garg (Rs 20 lakh), Rahul Tripathi (Rs 8.5 crore), Abhishek Sharma (Rs 6.50 crore), Aiden Markram (Rs 2.6 crore), Marco Jansen (Rs 4.2 crore), Romario Shepherd (Rs 7.7 crore).
