Mushfiqur Rahim made history as the first Bangladeshi cricketer to be dismissed for handling the ball in Test cricket during the second Test against New Zealand in Dhaka. This rare incident occurred in the post-lunch session on Day 1 when Mushfiqur, batting on 35, swatted a wide delivery with his right hand, resulting in his wicket.

The dismissal marked Mushfiqur as the eighth cricketer in Test history to be out in this unusual manner. Bangladesh lost their fifth wicket with the score at 104.

In the post-lunch session, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shahadat Hossain Dipu formed a resilient partnership, reaching a 50-run stand. By the end of the session, Bangladesh had crossed the three-figure mark, scoring 103-4 in 39 overs. The duo went unbeaten on 34 and 21, respectively.

 

 

Before lunch, Bangladesh faced challenges as openers Zakir Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan Joy provided a steady start with a 29-run stand. However, they departed in consecutive overs to the left-arm spin of Mitchell Santner and Ajaz Patel.

In the morning session, Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto also fell in successive overs, leaving Bangladesh in trouble at 47-4. Patel and Santner took two wickets each as Bangladesh struggled against spin after an initial phase of seam bowling.

At lunch, Bangladesh managed to prevent further damage, reaching 80-4. Mushfiqur contributed 18 runs to the 33-run partnership with Dipu, who scored 14 runs.

The woes continued as Mahmudul Hasan Joy edged one to short-leg off Ajaz Patel, leaving Bangladesh at 29-2. Joy scored 14 before his dismissal. Shortly after, opener Zakir Hasan departed, skying one to mid-on off Mitchell Santner, ending the 29-run opening stand.

Mushfiqur Rahim's historic dismissal marked the highlight of the day, while Bangladesh faced early setbacks against New Zealand's spin bowling, finishing the morning session at 80-4.
