Former India captain Virat Kohli surprised everyone when he came to bat at number three during the first Test match against New Zealand at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Kohli who used to bat at number four came to bat after India lost their first wicket. New Zealand's Tim Southee got the first breakthrough by picking up Indian captain Rohit Sharma on just two runs.
Earlier, In the second Test match between India and Bangladesh Kohli came to bat at number five. Rishabh Pant batted at number four in place of the former India captain.
Kohli last batted at number three back in 2016 against West Indies at Saint Lucia. He played five matches, seven innings scoring 97 runs with a highest score of 41 while batting first down in the longest format of the game.
However, Kohli failed to perform while batting at number three the batter got out on a duck. It was William ORourke who picked up former India captain, New Zealand's Glenn Phillips who was stationed at leg-gully picked the nearly impossible catch to send back Virat.
Virat Kohli gets out for a duck after 32 innings in Tests. The previous instance was also against New Zealand in Mumbai in 2021.
