India has produced some of the greatest batters of all time, and Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are the creams of the crop. While Sachin played a massive role in taking Indian cricket to where it is now, Virat took the baton from his 'idol' and is now regarded as a true all-time great. The 'Master Blaster' pushed the run-scoring ceiling to an astronomical level and just when it seemed that no one will come close to Sachin's records, Virat bow finds himself at the cusp of achieving the unthinkable.
With 74 international tons, Virat is 26 hundreds away from Sachin's 100 international centuries mark but the former already has 46 ODI tons and is bound to overhaul the latter's tally of 49 hundreds in the format.
As Virat continues to excel at an elite level, the question regarding who is the better batter between him and Sachin often keeps fans busy. On the same lines, former India World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev was asked to choose between the two and the former all-rounder ducked the bouncer in a classic manner.
"A player of that calibre, you don’t have to pick one or two. It’s a team of XI players. I might have my own likes or dislikes, but every generation is going to get better. In our time, Sunil Gavaskar was one of the finest then we saw Rahul Dravid, Sachin, Virender Sehwag and this generation Rohit, Virat and next generation will be better. You will see a better cricketer and performing better," Kapil told Gulf News.
Virat is currently in red-hot form with the willow. He might have missed out in the last couple of innings against New Zealand, but the maverick batter has already smashed two ODI centuries in 2023.
