Karnataka's skipper Mayank Agarwal continued to fire with the willow as he pummelled a stunning double century on Day 2 of the crucial Ranji Trophy semifinal clash at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium on Thursday (February 9). His cracking knock rescued Kanranataka from a precarious Day 1's 112/5 to a commanding 407 on Day 2. He ended up smashing an exceptional 249 off 429 which was decorated with 28 fours and six sixes as he smoked his second double-century. Overall, it was his third three-figure score in the ongoing tournament. He is also the highest run-getter in the ongoing season of the Ranji Trophy and is closing on for 1000 runs in the season.
Agarwal weaved a brilliant 139-run stand for the sixth wicket with wicketkeeper-batter S Sharath, who also impressed with a brilliant 66. Mayank then had another important 91-run stand for the ninth wicket with Vidhwath Kaverappa, who latched on to the other end with a 42-ball 15.
Mayank has been in brilliant form with the bat in the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy as his scores across 12 innings read 8, 73, 51, 50, 117, 14, 52*, 10, 208, 20, 83, and 226* (ongoing). He has amassed over 800 runs at an average of 91.60.
The former Punjab Kings skipper was not selected for the Border-Gavaskar series in favour of Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. With the squad yet to be announced for the final two Test matches, Mayank will be optimistic for a place in the team in Dharamshala and Ahmedabad.
