All-rounder Harsh Dubey has been officially been named Vidarbha's for their upcoming away Ranji Trophy fixture against Andhra. Simultaneously, the squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) final has been bolstered by the addition of Mohammed Faiz, as the team prepares for the culmination of the domestic 50-over season.
Harsh Dubey to lead Vidarbha in Ranji Trophy clash vs Andhra
Vidarbha secured their place in the prestigious final following a dominant performance against Karnataka in the first semifinal on Thursday. The victory was largely fueled by the exceptional form of Aman Mokhade, whose match-winning 138 guided the team to a comfortable six-wicket win. This triumph underscores Vidarbha's recent momentum as they head into the title match on January 18 at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Harsh Dubey's rise to the captaincy follows an unfortunate injury to regular skipper Akshay Wadkar, who suffered a wrist injury during a match against Uttar Pradesh. Dubey took charge during the Vijay Hazare Trophy knockout stages, with Rohit Binkar stepping in as the replacement wicketkeeper-batter to fill the void left by Wadkar.
As the limited-overs season concludes, attention will quickly shift back to the Ranji Trophy, which resumes for its second leg and knockout phase on January 22. The defending champions, Vidarbha, are scheduled to face Andhra in Anantpur from January 22 to 25, before returning to their home ground for a highly anticipated clash against Uttar Pradesh.
Harsh Dubey's domestic track record
Dubey’s rise in domestic cricket was defined by a historic performance during the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy season. He established himself as a premier threat by claiming a staggering 69 wickets, setting a new record for the most wickets taken in a single Ranji season. This feat allowed him to surpass the long-standing record of 68 wickets, which had been held by Ashutosh Aman since the 2018–19 campaign.
This extraordinary success quickly caught the attention of the Indian Premier League. During the 2025 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured the young all-rounder's services, signing him as an injury replacement for Smaran Ravichandran. The move marked a significant step forward in his career, transitioning his domestic dominance into the high-profile T20 arena.
At just 23 years old, Dubey boasts an impressive all-round record across 25 first-class matches. In addition to his 125 wickets—highlighted by a career-best spell of 6 for 36—he has proven to be a reliable contributor with the bat, accumulating 1,000 runs at an average of 27.02.
