Security to be beefed up around Arun Jaitley stadium after explosion near Red Fort in Delhi vs Jammu and Kashmir Ranji Trophy Group D clash

Delhi government to beef up security in and around the capital's Arun Jaitley Stadium for the final day of the Ranji Trophy Group D match between Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir after a high-intensity blast near the Red Fort, which is just a few kilometres away from the stadium here.

What happened in Delhi?

A car exploded near the Red Fort Metro station on Monday evening, causing chaos in the area. Several vehicles caught fire, and at least 8 to 10 people have lost their lives, while 20–24 others are reported injured. Police are investigating the incident, and though there are concerns about a possible terror attack, nothing has been confirmed so far. Delhi remains on high alert, with security tightened not only in the city but also in surrounding areas.

"Security to be beefed up near Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium (renamed Arun Jaitley Stadium) on the final day of the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir," Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma told PTI.

"I would be getting in touch with Delhi Police authorities and request them to deploy additional security outside the stadium premises," he added.

Delhi is on the brink of defeat

Delhi’s hopes of a first win this season took a hit on Monday against Jammu and Kashmir. In their second innings, the Delhi team struggled under pressure. Ayush Badoni (72) and Ayush Doseja started well with a 107-run stand, but things turned quickly when Vivarant Sharma took a brilliant running catch to dismiss Badoni. After that, wickets tumbled fast, and Delhi were eventually all out for 178, leaving them completely on the back foot.

Jammu and Kashmir spinners shine

Jammu and Kashmir’s spinners dominated the game. Vansh Sharma took 6 wickets for 68 runs, while Sahil Lotra picked up 3 for 73, sharing nine wickets between them and putting their team in control. Chasing 179 for victory, Jammu and Kashmir were 55 for 2 at stumps, needing just 124 more runs for what would be their first-ever Ranji Trophy win over Delhi.
