Veteran batter, who played 13 international matches for India and reversed retirement decision, completes 10,000 First-Class runs; celebration video goes viral

One of the household names in Indian cricket, Manoj Tiwary recently celebrated a significant milestone in his first-class cricket career, surpassing 10,000 runs. This achievement came during a Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match where he represented Bengal against Assam at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. At 38 years old, Tiwary's accomplishment marks a high point in a career that began in 2004, highlighting his enduring skill and dedication to the sport.

Tiwary, a right-handed batter, had briefly considered retirement but reversed his decision. Entering the match 38 runs shy of the 10,000-run landmark, he reached this impressive total effortlessly. In a heartwarming display of camaraderie, Tiwary shared a video celebrating this feat with his Bengal teammates, underscoring the supportive team environment.

"Thank you 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐁𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐋! A celebration which has made me emotional today! The celebration for 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟏𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 first class cricket, will remain even more special because of such wonderful teammates. We are family, The Bengal Family!" Tiwary captioned the video on X.

Despite a slow start in this season's Ranji Trophy, scoring only 54 runs across three matches against Andhra, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, Tiwary found his form against Assam. His batting was crucial for Bengal, especially after the team found itself in a challenging position at 57/4 in 19.1 overs. The early dismissals of Sourav Paul, Shreyansh Ghosh, Mohammad Kaif, and Sudip Kumar Gharami put the team under pressure.

Taking charge in this critical situation, Tiwary demonstrated his experience and skill, steering Bengal towards recovery. By the end of Day 1, Bengal's score stood at a stable 242/4 in 78 overs. Tiwary's contribution was significant, remaining unbeaten at 68 runs off 182 balls, including seven fours. His partnership with Anustup Majumdar, who scored an impressive 120 runs off 197 balls with 16 fours, was pivotal in stabilizing Bengal's innings.

Looking forward to Day 2, Tiwary's focus will be on aiding Bengal to establish a commanding score. Additionally, he is on the cusp of another personal achievement, eyeing his 30th hundred in first-class cricket.
