RCB's star batter roars with unbeaten 124 ahead of IPL 2024, propels Goa to commanding position vs Chandigarh in Ranji Trophy

Goa's opening batsman Suyash Prabhudessai delivered an impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 124, leading the team to a strong 267/3 at the close of the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Group C match at Porvorim on January 12, Friday. Choosing to bat first, Goa had a steady beginning with Prabhudessai, who was retained by RCB for IPL 2024, and Ishaan Gadekar (45) forming a 79-run stand for the opening wicket. Gadekar's innings was cut short by bowler Arpit Pannu.

Following this, Prabhudessai joined forces with Krishnamurthy Siddharth (77) in a significant 149-run partnership for the second wicket, further strengthening Goa's position. This partnership was eventually disrupted by Raj Bawa, but Prabhudessai’s century ensured Goa ended the first day in a dominant position.

Meanwhile, in another Group C match at Ahmedabad, Gujarat was dismissed for 264 in their clash with Karnataka, with Vasuki Koushik taking 4/49. Gujarat, batting first, faced early setbacks and were struggling at 45 for four. However, a solid 157-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Kshitij Patel (95) and Umang Kumar (72) stabilized their innings. Gujarat's innings concluded at 264, following the dismissals of Kshitij and Umang at 202 and 208 respectively.

Meanwhile, in Chandigarh, Railways ended the first day at 118 for three against Punjab, anchored by Pratham Singh's unbeaten 50. The match commenced post-lunch due to poor lighting conditions. Punjab's bowlers, including Baltej Singh, Siddarth Kaul, and Abhinav Sharma, each claimed a wicket, with Sanvir Singh also delivering a commendable bowling performance.

In Agartala, the opening day of the match between Tripura and Tamil Nadu saw no play due to bad light, impacting the home team's start in their fixture.
