Australian all-rounder Cameron Green shared an x-ray image of his injured finger on social media after Australia thrashed South Africa by an inning and 182 runs in the Boxing Day Test between the two sides at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The 23-year-old batted with a fractured finger for 177 balls as he scored an unbeaten half-century against their opponent.
Green took to social media to post a few photos of the match in which Australia turned out to be victorious, also including an image of his broken finger’s x-ray. He captioned the post, 'a rollercoaster of a week.'
Green was hit by the pace of Anrich Nortje on the glove on Day 2 at the MCG. The ball was travelling at a high speed of 145 kmph scorcher, and the all-rounder immediately felt some discomfort. Green retired hurt after blood started pouring from his glove and was expected to be ruled out of the Test but returned to bat, scoring an unbeaten half-century with a broken finger. However, he did not return to the field or bowl in South Africa’s second innings.
Green will undergo surgery on his injured finger to repair the fracture. He could be available again when Australia fly out for the four-Test series against India.
Australia bowled out the visitors for just 208 runs in the second innings, comfortably winning the match and taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Trailing by a massive 386 runs in the first innings, South Africa were bowled out for 204 in their second innings as Australia sealed the series 2-0 at the MCG.
