Suryakumar Yadav-led India are currently preparing for the five-match T20I series against South Africa, which will start from December 9 with the series opener set to take place at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
India’s luck with tosses hasn’t been great in recent times, as they have lost the majority of them. However, stand-in captain KL Rahul recently managed to break that streak in the third ODI by using a quirky left-handed coin flip, bringing an end to a run of 20 consecutive lost tosses in the fifty-over format.
Suryakumar Yadav's plan for the toss
When asked about Suryakumar Yadav about the toss losses, the stylish batter humbly responded that he would also toss the coin with his left hand, just like KL Rahul.
"I also do it with my left hand," said Suryakumar Yadav in pre-match press conference.
How many tosses has Suryakumar Yadav lost in 34 matches?
Suryakumar Yadav has captained a total of 34 matches since November 19, 2023. He has won the toss only 13 times, while losing 21. He has a toss win percentage of 38.24%. Therefore, he will now seek to improve his record with the help of Rahul's trick.
Pandya, Gill set to return
India's T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill and destructive fast bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya will make their international comeback in the five-match T20I series. Hardik, who sustained a left quadriceps injury and missed the Asia Cup final, is fully fit and in fine form after making his comeback in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. On the other hand, Gill sustained a neck injury during the first Test match against South Africa
"I think what you saw in the Asia Cup also, when he was bowling the new ball, he opened a lot of options, lot of combinations for us with respect to playing XI," Suryakumar said on the eve of the series-opening T20I here.
"That's what he brings to the table. His experience, the way he has done really well in all the matches, all good games also, all bigger games in ICC events.
"I think that experience will count a lot. His presence will definitely give a good balance to the side."
