BCCI have provided a major fitness update on Shubman Gill ahead of the second Test against South Africa that will commence from November 22. The India skipper had suffered a neck injury during the first Test at Eden Gardens and hadn't been able to participate in the side's second innings. He was taken to the hospital for examination on the day that he had sustained the injury.
Gill to travel with Team India to Guwahati
BCCI has now revealed that Gill got discharged the next day and has been responding well to the medical treatment. He will be travelling with the Indian team to Guwahati for the second Test, but the final decision regarding his participation will be taken later on.
"Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of day's play. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly," the BCCI post read.
Gill had faced just three deliveries during India's first innings of the second Test before he sustained neck spasms and had to be taken off the field. He didn't return to bat for both the first and second innings as the Men in Blue suffered a 30-run defeat to South Africa in Kolkata. After being handed a modest target of 124 to chase, the hosts failed to survive for long on the spin-friendly Eden Gardens pitch and got bundled out for just 93 runs.
India hoping to avoid series defeat
India will be hoping to bounce back from this defeat in the second and final Test of the series that will be played at the Barsapara stadium in Guwahati. It will be essential for the Men in Blue to win the match in order to avoid a series loss at the hands of the Proteas.
