Before cricket matches, we see former cricketers, cricket analysts predicting scores of teams and certain players. At times, they are correct about the manner of dismissals or the score they will be dismissed. However, it is not often when each and every prediction from them is spot on. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag shared a tweet which shockingly predicted everything about Kohli’s dismissal a day before his 100th Test in Mohali.
Kohli was dismissed for a score of 45 in the second session of Day 1 of the first Test. He was dismissed by Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya. The 33-year-old was beaten by the delivery that spun away to beat the bat and hit the off stump. That’s exactly what the Twitter user predicted along with the breezy cover drives, the veteran batter will play during his innings.
The Twitter user wrote in a tweet: “Kohli Won't score a 100 in his 100th test. Will score 45 (100) with 4 gorgeous cover drives and then Embuldeniya will knock his stumps over and he'll pretend to be shocked and will nod his head in disappointment”.
Sehwag’s response to the tweet was “Wow!!”.
Kohli walked in to bat in the first session after the dismissal of opener Mayank Agarwal. He shared a crucial 90-run partnership for the third wicket. He scored 45 runs from 76 deliveries including five boundaries before Embuldeniya set him up with his consistent lines. The spinner drew him forward and then Kohli tried to play a shot on the back foot which he missed.
The Delhi-born batter’s big-run drought continues. He has not scored a century since November 2019. Had he scored a century, Kohli would have become the 10th batter to breach the three figures in his 100th Test.
Before Kohli’s milestone Test, Sehwag had wished his former teammate in a video posted on bcci.tv.
“When I started playing Tests, my only goal was to become the first player to play 100 Test matches coming from Delhi. After me, Ishant Sharma also did that, and now, Virat is also going to do this feat,” the former Indian opener said.
"I captained Virat in his early Ranji matches. I had seen him play. He took the Indian team to a whole new height in Test cricket," he added.
