Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been in terrific form in the first Test match against Sri Lanka, played in Mohali. Ashwin had picked up two wickets in the first innings and four wickets in the second innings to help his side in scripting a convincing victory of an innings and 222 runs. Aswhin also picked up his 435th Test wicket to overtake former India skipper Kapil Dev’s tally of 434 Test wickets.
For his stellar show, Ashwin had received plenty of appreciation from many former cricketers and experts. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had also praised the spinner for his match-winning performance and called Ashwin as “all-time great.”
Ashwin speaks
While talking about Indian skipper and his comments, Ashwin said that “was very sweet of him.”
"I don't know what to tell Rohit. I am very bad at receiving compliments. I don't really know how to react. Sometimes I can get emotional but I cannot really coin those words when I am emotional. Rohit went out into the press conference and lavished praise on me and I didn't really know how to react until this morning. At the breakfast hall I said that was very sweet of him", Ashwin said while speaking to BCCI.
Jadeja's match-winning show
In the Mohali Test, apart from Ravichandran Ashwin, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja exhibited a terrific show. In the first innings he played a superb knock of 175 runs (not out) off 228 balls.
But his stunning show was not limited to his batting only as with the ball he did a tremendous job as well. In the first innings, Jadeja had picked up five wickets to bundle out the visitors within a paltry total of 174 runs.
In second innings, things were not much different as the all-rounder bagged four more wickets to restrict Sri Lanka within just 178.
Eventually, Jadeja was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his superb match-winning show.
The second Test match of the series is scheduled to be played in Bengaluru on March 12. It is important to mention that the second Test scheduled to be played in Bengaluru is going to be a day/night Test match.
