Vaibhav Suryavanshi's blitzkrieg helped India U-19 get the better of England U-19 in 3rd Youth ODI

Vaibhav Suryavanshi cracked a spellbinding 31-ball 86

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's explosive batting performance orchestrated a four-wicket victory for India Under-19 against the England Under-19 side in the rain-hit third Youth ODI in Northampton on July 2, 2025 which was shortened to 40 overs.

Suryavanshi yet again turned heads with his explosive knock, this time with a blazing 31-ball 86 runs which came handy in  India's chase. His aggressive knock, which was studded with nine sixes and six fours helped India successfully overhaul England's challenging target of 269 runs with 33 balls to spare to take 2-1 lead in the five-match series. During his blistering knock, the 14-year-old also achieved the record of scoring the second-fastest fifty by an Indian in Youth ODIs, reaching the milestone in just 20 balls. Only Rishabh Pant holds the record for a quicker half-century for India in Under-19 ODIs, having reached it in 18 balls against Nepal in 2016.

Suryavanshi's brilliant efforts were well-supported by the lower-order batsmen, Kanishk Chouhan (43) and RS Ambrish (31). The duo forged a crucial partnership of 75 runs for the seventh wicket, guiding the Indian team to victory.

Despite a strong start, India faced a setback in the middle overs, losing wickets and slipping to 199 for 6 in the 24th over. However, the situation was turned around by the bowling all-rounder Kanishk Chouhan, who had earlier taken three England wickets. Chouhan played a crucial unbeaten innings of 43 runs off 42 balls and forged an unbroken 75-run partnership with RS Ambrish, who remained not out on 31, guiding the team to a well-deserved victory.

Earlier in the innings, Vaibhav Suryavanshi launched a ferocious attack on the English bowlers. His aggressive intent was evident right from the start, notably when he smashed two consecutive sixes off the bowling of right-arm pacer Sebastian Morgan in the third over. Morgan faced further punishment in his subsequent over as the 14-year-old batting sensation, who has been in excellent form since showcasing his talent in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals, hit him for two more sixes and a boundary. England's left-arm pacer James Minto also bore the brunt of Suryavanshi's onslaught in the sixth over, conceding 23 runs, which included three sixes and a boundary. When Suryavanshi was finally dismissed, caught by Joseph Moores off the bowling of right-arm pacer Alexander Wade, India had already wiped off 111 runs from the target within just the first eight overs.

Following Suryavanshi's departure, India experienced a period of struggle in the middle overs. However, Kanishk Chouhan and RS Ambrish displayed composure and batted cautiously to steer the team towards the target, ultimately securing victory with 33 balls to spare.

In the first innings, England's captain Thomas Rew played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 76 runs off 44 balls, while opener Ben Dawkins found his form, scoring a fine 62 runs. Their contributions helped the hosts post a competitive total of 268 for 6 after the start of the match was delayed due to a wet outfield. Dawkins, a right-handed batter who had recorded two consecutive low scores in previous matches, provided England with the much-needed solid start after they were put in to bat by India on an overcast day. Dawkins and his left-handed opening partner Isaac Mohammed, who scored 41 runs off 43 balls, displayed remarkable calmness while playing against the moving ball, stitching together a crucial 78-run opening partnership. Isaac's dismissal did not significantly slow down the scoring rate, as the next batsman, Ben Mayes, played an almost run-a-ball innings, scoring 31 runs off 32 balls, guiding England to 133 for 2 by the 22nd over. The 55-run partnership for the second wicket between Dawkins and Mayes provided significant momentum to the home team, which was later capitalised upon by captain Rew, who launched a powerful attack on the Indian bowling, hitting some impressive shots that left the visitors searching for answers.

Meanwhile, the fourth Youth ODI between India U-19 and England U-19 will be played on July 5 at Worcester.
