Nat Sciver-Brunt-led England has been slapped with 10 per cent fine from their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against India in the first Women's T20I, where Smriti Mandhana's 112 off 62 powered visitors to a dominating 97-run win against England.
Helen Pack of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction as England were ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.
"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time," the ICC said in a statement on Sunday.
England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Jacqueline Williams and James Middlebrook, third umpire Sue Redfern and fourth umpire Anna Harris levelled the charge.
Invited to bat, India piled on 210 for five, with stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana hitting 112 off 62 balls, her maiden T20I hundred.
While chasing 211, England were bundled out for just 113 runs in 14.5 overs as India took 1-0 lead in the ongoing five-match T20I series. The second clash will take place on July 1 at the County Ground, Bristol
