Mandhana-Richa created history
Captain Smriti Mandhana continued her excellent form and scored 77 runs in 47 balls, which helped India to score a huge score of 217 runs for four wickets in the decisive third women's T20 International match of the series against West Indies. Mandhana, who is leading the team in the absence of Harmanpreet Kaur, hit 13 fours and a six during her innings and scored her third consecutive half-century. The Indian vice-captain had earlier also scored a century in the ODI series against Australia. After her dismissal, Richa Ghosh played an innings of 54 runs in 21 balls with three fours and five sixes. She scored a half-century in 18 balls and equalled Sophie Devine's record for the fastest half-century in women's T20 International.
Mandhana has completed a hat-trick of fifties in the T20I series by scoring 54 runs in the first T20, 54 in the second and now 77 in the third. She shared a 98-run partnership with Jemima Rodrigues. Jemima scored 39 runs off 28 balls. She smashed 3 fours and 5 sixes in her innings. Richa broke Smriti Mandhana's record to become the fastest Indian player to score a half-century in the women's T20 International. Mandhana held this record for about 5 years. She scored a half-century in 24 balls against New Zealand in February 2019.
West Indies never posed a threat to the big chase to be restricted to 157/9. Chinelle Henry waged a lone battle for the visitors with a quick 16-ball 43 but there was no support for her at the other end. Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav led India's bowling show, returning with 4/29. The two teams will now engage in a three-match ODI series in Vadodara from Sunday.
