Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli who is currently hospitalised was looking motivated on Tuesday, December 24. He was spotted singing an iconic British rock band's motivational song 'We Are the Champions' on his hospital bed and reaffirmed his deep love for the game of cricket, saying he would never turn away from it. The song he was singing 'We Are the Champions' was the anthem for victories at sporting events in the 90s. Kambli also reckons that he will go back home in a couple of days.
Kambli who was part of Mohammad Azharuddin-led India's 1996 World Cup team member was seen emotional while addressing the media. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to his childhood friend and former teammate, Sachin Tendulkar, as well as to all his well-wishers for their support during this challenging time.
"We are the champions, my friend. We will keep on fighting till the end," Kambli sang, adding he felt better after three days of treatment.
"I am thankful to Sachin Tendulkar as his blessings have always been with me.
"I will never leave cricket because I remember the number of centuries and double centuries I have hit," he said.
The legendary batter has been battling with health issues from a long time. Recently a video of Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli went viral on social media when both were attending an event honouring their childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar. Cricketing fans were shocked after watching their favourite's poor health and frail appearance.
The doctor who is treating Kambli said that the former India batter complained of urinary infection and cramps before getting admitted to the hospital on Saturday. However, after several scans, the medical team of Akruti Hospital found clots in his brain, according to PTI news agency.
