BCCI announces cash reward of Rs 131 crore for Suryakumar Yadav-led T20 World Cup 2026 champions

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of Rs 131 crore for Suryakumar Yadav-led Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at home. 

“India lifted the prestigious trophy after defeating New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, successfully defending the title and becoming the first team in the history of the tournament to retain the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With this victory, India also became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup three times, further cementing their place among the most successful teams in the history of the format,” the board said in a statement.

“The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future,” BCCI added.

Increase in cash reward

There is an increase of Rs 6 crore in the cash reward that Rohit Sharma-led India won for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, ending the trophy drought in ICC events. 

A first at home

In the final, India beat New Zealand by a comfortable margin of 96 runs to become first team to win the trophy at home. India also became the first team to defend the title. No other team has won more than two T20 World Cup titles. 

BCCI president Mithun Manhas lauded captain Suryakumar, head coach Gautam Gambhir and squad members for their accomplishment at home. 

“Winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is a moment of immense pride for the entire nation. To defend the title and achieve this feat on home soil makes it even more special. The team played outstanding cricket throughout the tournament under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav and the guidance of Head Coach Gautam Gambhir. I congratulate every member of the squad, the coaching staff and the selectors for this remarkable accomplishment,” Manhas said.
