India vs South Africa Live Match Updates: David Miller turned back the clock with a superb half-century, and South Africa followed it up with a disciplined bowling show to crush India by 76 runs in their Group 1 Super Eights clash of the T20 World Cup on Sunday.
South Africa chose to bat first and recovered brilliantly after an early wobble. Miller played a sparkling knock of 63 from 35 balls, while young Dewald Brevis impressed with 45 off 29. The pair added 97 runs for the fourth wicket in just 51 balls, shifting the momentum completely and helping their team reach 187 for 7.
India’s reply never really took off. The Aiden Markram-led side bowled with control and intelligence, bundling India out for 111 in 18.5 overs. Marco Jansen was the standout performer with 4 for 22. Keshav Maharaj picked up 3 for 24, and Corbin Bosch chipped in with 2 for 12 at key moments.
Lungi Ngidi also played an important role. Even though he didn’t take a wicket, he kept things tight, conceding only 15 runs in his four overs and not allowing India any chance to rebuild.
Shivam Dube was India’s top scorer with 42 off 37 balls, but he didn’t get enough support from the other end.
In a surprise move, part-time off-spinner Aiden Markram opened the bowling and made an immediate impact. He dismissed the in-form Ishan Kishan for a four-ball duck in the very first over.
Abhishek Sharma finally got off the mark in the tournament after three ducks, but his stay was short as he scored 15 before Jansen struck again. India were left struggling at 26 for 3 in the powerplay.
Earlier in the match, South Africa had also been in trouble at 20 for 3 inside four overs after Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 15) and Arshdeep Singh (2 for 28) made early breakthroughs. But Miller’s experience and Brevis’ fearless strokeplay turned the game around and set up a dominant win for South Africa.

Great performance. Different type of wicket to what we have had here. Boys assessed that early and then to adapt to their plans. Happy for the bowlers. Start to the comp was tough, but tonight (they were brilliant). The partnership they (Brevis and Miller) put up, it kept us in the game. Did not feel like the ball was travelling. It was a bit spongy. Trying to hit into space and run hard. They bowled well up front and at the death, but our batting through the middle was probably the difference. Good effort but we put two down. Other day against UAE, we were not as connected. That was much better today. (On Ngidi and his role tonight) We feel like he is a threat whenever he is bowling, and that he can take wickets through the middle. He just rocks up and keeps delivering. (On facing West Indies and if it helps facing them before this tournament) Same for both teams, having played against each other recently. They are a dangerous side. Enjoy this for one night and then park it. Big game for us. Important we rock up and take it on full steam again.

Suryakumar Yadav on India's defeat: We were always in the game when we started. Bowled really well in the beginning. From 7-15, they batted really well and then we come back. Bowled really well but could have batted better. Sometimes, you have to think you cannot win the game in the powerplay but you can lose it. Did not have the partnerships we needed. Part of the game. I think you’re always behind the eight ball there and it’s just about making sure you stick to your strengths. You don’t want to go into your shell. You want to play good cricket shots but be nice and selective. Getting in that powerplay there with the fielders all in the ring, it was quite nice to get a couple over the fielders. And then Brevis was batting really well all the way through. Stubbs too, I think it was just about extending that partnership as much as we could. We’re all boundary strikers, but it’s about making sure you rotate the strike well. I think with the nature of this ground, you actually want to look straight. It’s smaller straight than square, so you want to shape up to be hitting straight and then react accordingly. It wasn’t spinning too much in the first innings, so just looking to be nice and aggressive to the spinners and chip it away where you can. They’re (India) a serious setup, some really world-class bowlers there. It’s something we spoke about a lot. We’ve played against them a lot as well, so it’s about matching the intensity, if not raising it, against their bowlers and putting them under pressure. They are good bowlers, but they do bowl bad balls, so it’s about making sure you’re in a position to capitalise.

Preparation’s been good. It’s always an optional session, but the guys look after their own space. Everyone’s in a different space, but as a collective, I think we’re moving quite nicely. Guys are prepared individually and make sure that they come ready for a big occasion tonight and we’re all looking forward to it. (On averaging 65 this year batting at three) I’ll take that to start, but I think it’s just a different perspective, I suppose. Being lopsided in as an opener, specialist, it can close your mind off to a few things. I think walking in there, that first game in Paarl against the West Indies kind of opened my mind just to how to play it. I was fortunate enough to bat with Aiden who spent a lot of time at three. And I’ve just tried to just have a bit more perspective on the game and a broader look on it instead of just saying it’s my time now. I’ve got to put these guys under pressure. Still looking to put guys under pressure, trusting my instincts a lot more and just making sure that I’m trying to make the right decision at the right time because your entry points are so different and different phases of the game require different things. So it’s still an evolving skill, still something I’m trying to learn, but I’m just trying to make sure that I keep an open book and not close my mind off to too many things. And this is definitely part of it. To spend a lot of time in one venue is huge. We haven’t traveled much as well, just from a traveling fatigue perspective. But yeah, we’re very familiar with the conditions. We've gotten used to calling Ahmedabad kind of our second home in a way. So the guys are accustomed with the ground. We know what the wicket’s going to offer. We prepared really well. So it’s just about executing our skill on the night.

Varun Chakaravarthy: (On having a good record against SA at this venue) Well, those matches were played a month before and obviously things have changed after that, but I would say the wicket did help me a bit because it skids more, yeah. Exactly as I told you, the pitch, if it provides more skid, it sometimes helps me because I’m generally more quicker through the air and so I get a little more help here. (On the support for this game) Means a lot because this ground, when it’s packed, it’s totally different. It has a different vibe to it and we are all looking forward to this experience here. I hope we could play more in Sri Lanka because of the turning tracks, but this is the conditions that we have in front of us. So can’t complain much. Ahmedabad pitch analysis by Ravi Shastri and Shaun Pollock: It’s Ahmedabad, and it’s a nice, pleasant spring evening here. Temperatures are in the low 30s-32 to be exact - with not much humidity, and at this time of year it’s normally ideal for playing cricket. The ground dimensions are 72 meters straight down the ground, 67 one side and 64 the other, so if you want to play the ramps and target the shorter boundary, that’s the way to go. It’s pitch number five, the same surface used when South Africa played India here in December - India made 236 and South Africa replied with 210. If you look at the numbers, it’s the highest-scoring surface in India with an average first-innings score of 192, so you’d say it’s a bit of a belter. Having had a close look, it seems to have a little less grass than in the other games, it’s completely black soil with no red involved whatsoever, and there are more cracks visible on this surface. I think it’s going to be a good pitch throughout, but with the river so close to the ground, the only concern is whether dew could play a part later on - so there could well be an advantage to batting second.

He has smashed 24 fours and six sixes during his stay in the middle and South Africa would be hoping for him to continue batting the same way in the clash against India.
Varun Chakaravarthy
Varun Chakaravarthy has been one of India’s biggest strengths with the ball in this T20 World Cup. His mystery spin is troubling batters again and again. So far, he has taken nine wickets, which makes him the joint second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. If India go deep into the competition, he could even finish as the top wicket-taker. He has been very economical too, giving away very few runs and averaging just 7.76. He has already taken two four-wicket hauls, showing how dangerous he can be on his day.
Lungi Ngidi
For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi has been their main man with the ball. He has picked up eight wickets in just three matches and has made a strong impact. With an average of 11.37, he has been consistent and effective. South Africa will once again look to him to deliver and strike important blows when they face India.
