Suryakumar Yadav on India's defeat: We were always in the game when we started. Bowled really well in the beginning. From 7-15, they batted really well and then we come back. Bowled really well but could have batted better. Sometimes, you have to think you cannot win the game in the powerplay but you can lose it. Did not have the partnerships we needed. Part of the game. We will learn from it. Sit back and bounce back. (On Arshdeep and Bumrah) Everyone knows their combination has been lethal. Both bowled eight overs, picked five wickets and gave up 45-50 runs. After suffering a massive defeat, India now needs to win their remaining matches with a huge margin as their run-rate is now negative after a 76-run defeat against South Africa. 

David Miller lavished praise on teammates after South Africa's dominating win against India 

I think you’re always behind the eight ball there and it’s just about making sure you stick to your strengths. You don’t want to go into your shell. You want to play good cricket shots but be nice and selective. Getting in that powerplay there with the fielders all in the ring, it was quite nice to get a couple over the fielders. And then Brevis was batting really well all the way through. Stubbs too, I think it was just about extending that partnership as much as we could. We’re all boundary strikers, but it’s about making sure you rotate the strike well. I think with the nature of this ground, you actually want to look straight. It’s smaller straight than square, so you want to shape up to be hitting straight and then react accordingly. It wasn’t spinning too much in the first innings, so just looking to be nice and aggressive to the spinners and chip it away where you can. They’re (India) a serious setup, some really world-class bowlers there. It’s something we spoke about a lot. We’ve played against them a lot as well, so it’s about matching the intensity, if not raising it, against their bowlers and putting them under pressure. They are good bowlers, but they do bowl bad balls, so it’s about making sure you’re in a position to capitalise.

Well, South Africa outplayed India in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 clash. What a great performance by South Africa. The Proteas have registered a 76-run win this is the biggest defeat for India in the history of the T20 World Cup 2026.

India’s start to their chase of 188 in the Group 1 Super Eights clash against South Africa on Sunday did not go as planned, as they slipped to 29 for three after five overs. After three successive ducks in the tournament, Abhishek Sharma finally opened his account. He began with a boundary off Aiden Markram, showing early intent.

He then took on Kagiso Rabada, upper-cutting a short ball over the wicketkeeper for six and following it up by driving a wide full toss through cover point as India looked to regain momentum. However, a stunning catch by Corbin Bosch ended Abhishek’s stay for 15 off 12 balls (2 fours, 1 six), once again denying him the chance to convert a start. Earlier, Aiden Markram struck with his off-spin to dismiss the in-form Ishan Kishan for a four-ball duck. Three balls later, Tilak Varma charged at Marco Jansen but inside-edged onto his pads. The review confirmed a spike, and he was out for 1.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav responded with two crisp boundaries off Jansen to ease some of the pressure, but with three wickets down inside five overs, India had work to do in their chase.

The powerplay has ended and South Africa ruled the first six overs of the clash. India are currently in a spot of bother as they have lost three wickets in quick succession. Well, the side have deep batting. India need 157 runs in 84 balls

Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar now need to take the onus from here to win the clash. After getting a good start, Abhishek has again started trying to go for a boundary on every ball. 

Three overs are done and dusted. Abhishek Sharma has started fireworks after a forgetful outing in his last three outings of the tournament. The batter slapped Rabada for a six and a four to get 10 runs from the over. India needs 165 runs.
