Rishabh Pant and Harshit Rana proved to be Delhi's top performers as they made light work of Services in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Delhi completely outclassed their opponents on both the batting and bowling fronts and recorded a comfortable 8-wicket victory. This result has seen them move to the top of the Elite Group D with 16 points from five matches.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Rana ensured that Delhi got off to a great start as he got rid of opener Sagar Dahiya in the second over. Things soon got better for Pant & Co. as Ishant Sharma dismissed Harsh Vardhan in the seventh over, restricting Services to 24/2. The duo of Ravi Chauhan and Irfan Ali tried to form a solid partnership, but both of them failed to score big as Rana and Ayush Badoni racked up their wickets.
Harshit and Prince star with the ball
The rest of the Services batters also failed to score big and were only able to play cameos at max as the Delhi bowlers put in a stunning performance. The likes of Vikas Hathwala (26), Pulkit Narang (22), Poonam Poonia (23) and Raj Bahadur (25) were the only batters who managed to record a score of over 20. Pacer Prince Yadav bowled a fiery spell of 3/28 while Rana recorded figures of 4/47 in his quota of 10 overs. Services were eventually bundled out for 178 and now the Delhi batters had a rather easy task on their hands.
In reply, Delhi also had a poor start to their innings as Sarthak Ranjan got dismissed by Nitin Yadav in the first over itself. The duo of Priyansh Arya and Nitish Rana stabilized the innings and formed a strong partnership as Services were once again put on the back-foot. Priyansh was the aggressor among the two while Nitish played the supporting role very well.
Priyansh and Pant lead Delhi to victory
The former went on to complete his half-century in no time as Delhi cruised their way towards the target. Though Nitish lost his wicket for 32 runs, Pant came in next and also went on to play an explosive knock. He also went on to bring up his fifty as Delhi reached the 179-run target after just 19.4 overs. Priyansh remained unbeaten on 72 while Pant also remained unbeaten on 67 as the side continued their superb form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. They will face Railways next on January 6.
