Mitchell Marsh has been appointed as the captain of a 14-member strong Australian squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against West Indies. The Mitchell Marsh, who previously captained the team in South Africa last August-September, steps into the leadership role once again.

Cricket Australia has not yet announced the captain for the T20 World Cup later this year, but the 32-year-old Marsh's current leadership role positions him as a potential candidate. Notably, Matthew Wade captained the team in the series against India following the World Cup.

Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, both considered for captaincy, are being rested for this series due to minor physical issues. They are anticipated to return for the series against New Zealand, which is Australia's final T20 engagement before the World Cup.

Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, both considered for the team's captaincy, are sitting out this series. The decision to rest these fast bowlers comes due to minor ongoing physical issues. However, they are slated to make a comeback for the upcoming series against New Zealand, which is Australia's final T20 commitment before the World Cup. Additionally, the experienced batsman Steve Smith is not part of the squad, having been given a break after his experimental role as an opener in the series against India. Matt Short, who amassed 541 runs in this season's Big Bash League, is expected to join David Warner as the opening batsman, with Warner continuing his involvement in this format. Glenn Maxwell and fast bowler Nathan Ellis are making a return to the squad after being rested for the ODIs. The team is scheduled to come together on February 7, two days prior to the first match in Hobart.
