Australia concluded their first innings by declaring at 289/9 late in the final session, trailing the visitors by just 22 runs. In reply West Indies found themselves stranded at 31/1 at the end of Day 2's game, lead Australia by 35 runs.  Khawaja was the highest scorer for Australia with 75 runs, while Alzarri Joseph was the standout bowler for West Indies with figures of 4/84.

After witnessing Sinclair's wild celebration, former England skipper Michael Vaughan on Fox Cricket, said," hat a celebration!”.

“That has got to be the best (celebration) ever. That is the best ever,” Australian batting great Allan Border responded.

Meanwhile legendary Ian Smith said,"We’ve just seen one of the great celebrations of all time.”

During the drinks break, the commentators interviewed with Sinclair via the Spidercam.

“I feel a bit of relief, first Test match, bowling, I was kind of nervous but I’ve got my first wicket which changes everything for me now,” Sinclair said.

“It’s my best celebration, it’s my best wicket celebration, now I’ve got to go back it up again for the skipper,” he further added.

Earlier in the match, Steve Smith struggled in his new role as an opener, contributing to Australia's collapse to 24-4 by tea. Smith, stepping in for the retired David Warner as Australia's opener, managed only 12 runs in this position during the first test at Adelaide, a match Australia won by 10 wickets. The session ended on a high note for the West Indies with Kemar Roach (3-13) taking two crucial wickets in the last two balls before the break.

Cameron Green, who had tested negative for COVID-19 before the game, was caught by West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite at cover after scoring eight runs. Travis Head was then impressively caught by Joshua Da Silva down the leg side off the next ball.

On the first day, debutant offspinner Kevin Sinclair's half-century propelled West Indies to a competitive first-innings score. Sinclair scored 50 and, along with experienced paceman Kemar Roach who scored eight, added 31 runs for the ninth wicket, resuming from an overnight score of 266-8 on Friday.
