"He (Neeraj) is also like my son. He is Nadeem's friend and also his brother. Wins and losses are part of the sport. May god bless him, may he win medals. They are like brothers, I've prayed for Neeraj too," Arshad's mother said in an interview with a Pakistani news channel.

"I am thankful to entire Pakistan for the support they lent to Nadeem, the prayers they offered for my son," Arshad's mother added.

Arshad's mother's comment came after Neeraj Chopra's mother Saroj Devi's comment on her son's Pakistani counterpart. Saroj said that Nadeem is a also like her child and she is satisfied with her son's silver medal.

"We are happy with the silver. The one who got the gold (Arshad Nadeem) is also my child," Neeraj Chopra's mother Saroj Devi said.

 

Arshad Nadeem stunned the world by defeating defending champion Neeraj Chopra to claim the gold medal in the men's javelin throw at the Paris Olympics. Nadeem's record-breaking throw of 92.97  on August 8th secured Pakistan's first-ever track and field Olympic gold. Despite the loss, Neeraj Chopra achieved a historic feat by winning his second consecutive Olympic medal with a silver-winning throw of 89.4m.
