The Indian men's bridge team demonstrated sheer tenacity and strategic brilliance as they triumphed over China with a 2-1 scoreline, sealing their berth in the finals of the bridge competition at the Asian Games. This victory promises India a minimum of a silver medal, enhancing the nation's pride and glory in the ongoing event.
This accomplishment is a step up from their previous performance. Recalling the Jakarta Games in 2018, the Indian men had secured a bronze medal. Now, with their eyes set on the gold, they're prepping to face off against Hong Kong in the gold medal match this coming Friday.
During the gripping semifinal round in Hangzhou, the Indian team accumulated an impressive total of 155.60 points from 80 boards. On the other hand, China, despite having the home advantage, could muster only 135 points. To add to the competitive fervor, in another gripping semifinal, Hong Kong, tallying 153 points, outshined Japan, who managed to secure 118 points.

The journey to victory, however, was not without its challenges for the Indian team. Starting the day on a subdued note, they lost the initial session to China with a score of 16-36. This early setback did not dampen their spirits. Rallying back with renewed vigor, the Indian players delivered a commendable performance in the second session, outplaying China 37-24.
The third and crucial final session saw the Indian team bring forth their A-game. Demonstrating impeccable skill and determination, they surpassed China with a 35-25 score, stamping their place in the grand finale.
On the other hand, it's worth noting that the Indian women’s and mixed teams could not progress to the semifinals. Despite this, the remarkable performance of the men's team has given fans much to cheer about and look forward to in the upcoming gold medal clash.
