World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka continued her dominant form in 2025 by securing her second title of the year at the Miami Open. Sabalenka overpowered fourth-ranked Jessica Pegula with a commanding 7-5, 6-2 victory inside the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night. This victory marked Sabalenka's third consecutive win over Pegula in a final, following her triumphs at the US Open and Cincinnati Open in 2024.

Sabalenka’s Humble Gesture During Trophy Ceremony
Despite her decisive win, Sabalenka showed immense sportsmanship during the post-match trophy ceremony, expressing sympathy for her American rival.

“First of all Jess, I’m so sorry, for real,” Sabalenka said. “If I could share the trophy with someone—trophy, prize money, points, everything—I would definitely share it with you. I’m sorry for that. You’re an incredible player, you always push me so hard to play my best. You’re a great player. Congrats to you and your team on an incredible couple of weeks. I always enjoy playing against you, it’s always great battles, great matches, great level of tennis.”

Dominance Over Pegula Continues
Sabalenka’s recent victories over Pegula highlight her growing dominance over one of the WTA Tour’s most consistent performers. After clinching the US Open and Cincinnati Open titles in 2024, Sabalenka proved once again in Miami that she remains a formidable force on the court. Pegula, despite her best efforts, struggled to find answers against Sabalenka’s powerful baseline game and relentless aggression.

Pegula’s Strong Run in Miami Ends in Disappointment
Pegula, who had put together an impressive run to reach the Miami Open final, was once again left to ponder what could have been. Although her efforts were commendable, Sabalenka’s sheer power and precision proved too much to handle. Pegula’s consistency and resilience have established her as a top contender on the tour, but her inability to crack the Sabalenka code in finals remains a tough challenge.

Sabalenka’s 2025 Campaign Gathers Momentum
With two titles already under her belt in 2025, Sabalenka has cemented her position at the top of the rankings. Her ability to perform at a high level on big stages, especially against top-ranked opponents like Pegula, underscores her status as one of the most dominant players in women’s tennis today.

As the season progresses, Sabalenka will look to build on this momentum and maintain her grip on the No. 1 spot, while Pegula will aim to bounce back and end her losing streak against the reigning champion.
