Anahat Singh has secured a landmark silver medal in the women’s singles at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. The 18-year-old lost the final in straight games to Malaysia’s top seed and defending champion Sivasangari Subramaniam, finishing 11-4, 11-4, 11-7. Following the loss, the Indian squash star has now fallen short of the Olympic quota.
Despite the defeat, Singh’s performance marks a breakthrough for Indian squash. The youngster has now become the first Indian woman to win a singles medal at the Asian Games and the first to reach the final. She has also become the first Indian woman to win a singles silver in squash at the Asian Games.

Singh advanced to the gold-medal match with a dramatic semi-final comeback against Japan’s World No. 6 Satomi Watanabe. Trailing 0-2, she recovered to win 3-2 (9-11, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6, 11-3), showcasing the resilience that has defined her rapid rise.
A recent World Junior champion, Singh had already collected bronze medals in team and mixed doubles events at the previous Asian Games. Her silver in Nagoya underlines India’s growing strength in the sport and positions the teenager as a key figure ahead of squash’s Olympic debut in 2028.
The result adds to India’s medal tally and highlights a new generation of talent in Asian squash. On the other hand, Abhay Singh had earlier settled for the silver medal at the men’s singles final in squash. He lost to Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow, the top seed and defending champion from the 2022 Hangzhou Games.
