Priya Ghanghas has assured India of its fifth boxing medal at the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Monday. The Indian boxer has advanced to the next stage after a dominant quarter-final victory in the women’s 60kg category.
The 20-year-old from Haryana defeated Tajikistan’s Mijgona Samadova by a unanimous 5-0 decision at the Nishio Gymnasium. Priya overcame a narrow first-round deficit, winning the subsequent rounds emphatically to book her place in the semi-finals and guarantee at least a bronze medal.

This result marks another strong showing for India’s boxing contingent, which has already secured multiple podium assurances through other athletes including Lovlina Borgohain. Ghanghas, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion and Asian Elite Championships gold medallist, will next face China’s Yang Chengyu in the semi-finals for a place in the gold medal match.
Ghanghas’ performance continues India’s impressive campaign in the ring at the 20th Asian Games. She was voted by all five judges, with three scoring the bout 29-27 and two judges awarding her a 30-26 victory across the three rounds. India now has five boxing medals so far.
