Gulveer Singh has claimed silver in the men’s 1500 metres at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Monday. The Indian long-distance runner secured his second podium finish of the competition. It was his second medal in the ongoing multi-sport event in Japan.
Gulveer had earlier won silver in the 10,000 metres. In the 1500m final, he led for much of the race before being overtaken in the closing stages by Japan’s Kazuto Izawa. Singh finished just 0.37 seconds behind the winner.

The result underlines Singh’s versatility, as he continues to compete successfully across both middle and long-distance events. It also adds to India’s medal tally in athletics at the Games, which are being held from 19 September to 4 October.
Earlier, Vithya Ramraj settled for a bronze medal in the women's 400m hurdles. Not only that, but she also set a new national record by breaking PT Usha’s 42-year-old record. On the other hand, Avinash Sable failed to defend his gold medal and finished fourth in the men's 3000m steeplechase final.
