However, the celebration was disrupted when Naqvi went on stage to give the award. The Indian team refused it from him and celebrated the historic victory on the sidelines.
It was followed by the men’s cricket team, when they also refused to take the trophy from him after winning the 2025 Asia Cup, defeating Pakistan. Naqvi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief, was there to present the award too.
OCA rules state that medals are presented by the OCA President or a designated representative. No political demonstrations are entertained, which made fans curious to know whether he will be present at the Asian Games for the medal presentation as Indian women fight for the gold against Sri Lanka.

The answer is no. Medals for the Women’s T20 cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games will be presented by a carefully chosen trio of dignitaries, avoiding any potential controversy involving Asian Cricket Council chairman Naqvi.
According to a report by RevSportz Global, the medals will be handed over by Vinod Kumar Tiwari, a member of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Indian Winter Olympian and luger Shiva Keshavan, and Tayyab Ikram, the Pakistani president of the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
The announcement has drawn attention because of recent tensions. Indian teams, both men’s and women’s, have declined to accept trophies or medals from Naqvi, who is also chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and a senior Pakistani minister at Asia Cup events. Fans had speculated that a similar situation could arise at the Asian Games, where India face Sri Lanka in the gold-medal match later today at Korogi Sports Park.
Meanwhile, Pakistan secured the bronze medal by defeating Bangladesh, while India, the defending champions, advanced to the final after a dominant semi-final win over Bangladesh. The selected presenters, spanning OCA administration, winter sports and international hockey, reflect a multi-sport and regional approach to the ceremony.
